We are an exclusive home from home Dachshund hotel for boarding and specialise in taking care of all mini dachshunds including IVDD warriors, there are no kennels in this house!  Here at the hotel we take mini sausages who may be senior, anxious, shy, nervous, suffer with IVDD, or have no issues at all and would like an enjoyable peaceful holiday with a low number of guests. We are based in a quiet, quaint little village near Basingstoke in Hampshire which is 10 mins from J6 or J7 on the M3.

We want to stress for IVDD pups that we are not a rehabilitation centre, we merely provide quiet holiday accommodation for dogs who have been through IVDD and have recovered.

My name is Lucy and I live with my husband Simon and our beautiful senior mini sausage dogs Millie Moo (13) and Dolly (10) in a stunning country village. As I am already a full time sausage mum with 11 yrs plus experience and being knowledgable of IVDD, I made a decision to start up the Long Dog Hotel and ignite my passion for the mini & IVDD daxi dogs.

Its never too early to look for boarding for your pup if you have holidays in mind, leaving it until a month or two before your holiday, dramaticaly reduces your chances of being able to book the dates you want because we only take a limited amount of sausages here at the hotel.

Unfortunately, we will not be suited to all dogs, and some dogs wont be suited to our environment, please do not be offended if we decide not to accept your pup, the decision is based solely on what is best not only for your own dog, but others in our care at the same time. Please remember, yes we care for other peoples' dogs but it is also our home.

Stage 1- Your Enquiry

Please read our website and T&Cs fully so you understand how we run things at the hotel. Once you have, do send us an email via our website to make your initial enquiry and provide your contact details. We will then text or email you and ask you to provide dates you may be available for stage 2 below.

Stage 2- Virtual Video Call Meet (free)

Once we have a date set for your free half hour meet via virtual telephone video call, we will then ask you to complete our comprehensive Boarding Agreement via email and ask you provide an up to date vaccination card and kennel cough proof no later than 3 days before our call. During your call we will show you the inside of the house and the garden. We also have a chat about the information you have provided on your form and you have the chance to ask any questions you may have. Virtuals are during the week in the morning or afternoon when its light outside (unless you are unable to work around these times)

Stage 3- Dog Meet & Greet (free)

If we are happy with things going forward, you will be invited down so we can meet your pup on his/her own for up to an 1 hour to get an idea of how your pup is. Meets are held during the week and are no cost (unless you are unable to work around these times). Please note we dont allow the humans in for a show around as we often have IVDD or medical pups here and you will appreciate that lots of new people coming in and out can bring stress or excitement on the dogs. (Note- if you live quite far this can be combined with a Trial but this is at my discretion)

Stage 3- Trial Night

Following on from the hour meet, if we feel your pup would settle and fit in well, we can go ahead with a trial. We keep in touch throughout the trial and if your pup does not settle or any unwanted behaviours are displayed, we would ask you to collect your pup and this is non-refundable, we can suggest other boarders who may suit your pup better. Otherwise we may need to consider extra settling time if your pup has not been to boarding before but this will be discussed if necessarry.

Stage 4- Book your holiday

If all is well following the overnight trial, you are then a VIP client and are free to book any holidays, you will be invited to our facebook VIP group.

Your preferred holiday dates will be held for you until the trial process is complete providing you and also we can commit to the process being completed within a few weeks of your initial contact with us. Due to high demand from our regular boarders who book dates throughout the year we are unable to hold holiday dates past 2-3 weeks. If you or we are unable to complete the process within 2-3 weeks, you have the option to pay a one off non-refundable deposit of £70 to hold your preferred holiday dates whilst we complete the process. If your pup doesnt settle or isnt suitable for our environment there is no refund for the deposit- all payments are made at your own risk.

Please make sure your holiday insurance or pet insurance covers any loss of boaring fees due to holiday cancellations for any reason.
