We are an exclusive home from home Dachshund hotel for boarding and specialise in taking care of all mini and tweenie dachshunds including recovered IVDD warriors, there are no kennels in this house!  Here at the hotel we take mini/tweenie sausages who may be senior, shy, nervous, suffered with IVDD, or have no issues at all and would like an enjoyable peaceful holiday with a low number of guests. We are based in a quiet, quaint little village near Basingstoke in Hampshire which is 10 mins from J6 or J7 on the M3.

We want to stress for IVDD pups that we are not a rehabilitation centre, we merely provide quiet holiday accommodation for dogs who have been through IVDD and have recovered.

My name is Lucy and I live with my husband Simon and our beautiful senior mini sausage dogs Millie Moo (13) and Dolly (10) in a stunning country village. As I am already a full time sausage mum with 11 yrs plus experience and being knowledgable of IVDD, I made a decision to start up the Long Dog Hotel and ignite my passion for the mini & IVDD daxi dogs.

Its never too early to look for boarding for your pup if you have holidays in mind, leaving it until a month or two before your holiday, dramaticaly reduces your chances of being able to book the dates you want because we only take a limited amount of sausages here at the hotel.

Unfortunately, we will not be suited to all dogs, and some dogs wont be suited to our environment, please do not be offended if we decide not to accept your pup, the decision is based solely on what is best not only for your own dog, but others in our care at the same time. Please remember, yes we care for other peoples' dogs but it is also our home.

Stage 1- Your Enquiry

• Please take into account that due to high demand from our regular boarders who book dates throughout the year you will need to be flexiable with fitting in your meet/trial dates,

• Please read number 6 of our T&Cs page to see how you can hold specific holiday dates prior to a meet/trial.

• Please read our website and T&Cs fully so you understand how we run things at the hotel.

• Once you have, do send us an email via our website to make your initial enquiry and provide your contact details.

• We will then text or email you to double check you have read and understand the T&Cs, we can then send you details for stage 2 below.

Stage 2- Virtual Video Call (FREE)

• We can set a date for your free hour meet via virtual telephone video call.

• Virtuals are during the week in the morning or afternoon when its light outside. We try our best to fit you in when we can but you will need to be flexiable due to high demand.

• Weekends can be arranged but there may be a long wait for a space.

• We will then send you an email and ask you to complete our comprehensive Boarding Agreement which also askes you to provide an up to date vaccination card and kennel cough proof as well.

• You will need to send this information back on email no later than 3 days before our chat.

• If you are unable to complete this in time, please politely advise us in advance so we may offer your slot to other clients. Your appointment will need to be cancelled and rescheduled at a later date. 

• During your call we will show you the inside of the house and the garden. We will also have a chat about the information you have provided on your form and you have the chance to ask any questions you may have. ​

Stage 3- Dog Meet & Greet (FREE)

• If we are happy with things going forward, you will be invited down so we can meet your pup on his/her own for up to an 1 hour to get an idea of how your pup is.

• Meets are held during the week and are no cost.

• Weekends can be arranged but there may be a long wait for a space. 

• We dont allow the humans in for a show around as we often have IVDD or medical pups here and you will appreciate that lots of new people coming in and out can bring stress or excitement on the dogs.

• If you live more than 2 hours away this can be combined with a Trial but this is at our discretion.

Stage 3- Trial Night

• Following on from the hour meet, if we feel your pup would settle and fit in well, we can go ahead with a trial.

• We keep in touch throughout the trial and if your pup does not settle or any unwanted behaviours are displayed, we would ask you to collect your pup and this is non-refundable.

• We can suggest other boarders who may suit your pup better.

• We may need to consider extra settling time if your pup has not been to boarding before but this will be discussed if necessarry.

• If your pup doesnt pass the trial and you have made a deposit payment to hold dates please read number 6 of our T&Cs.

Stage 4- Book Your Holiday

• If all is well following the overnight trial, you are then a VIP client and are free to book holidays.

• You will be invited to our facebook VIP group. ​

• Please make sure your holiday insurance or pet insurance covers any loss of boaring fees due to holiday cancellations for any reason.
