We are an exclusive home from home Dachshund hotel for boarding and specialise in taking care of all mini dachshunds including IVDD warriors, there are no kennels in this house! Here at the hotel we take mini sausages who may be senior, anxious, shy, nervous, suffer with IVDD, recently had surgery or have no issues at all and would like an enjoyable peaceful holiday with a low number of guests. We are based in a quiet, quaint little village near Basingstoke in Hampshire which is 10 mins from J6 or J7 on the M3.
We want to stress that we are not a rehabilitation centre, we merely provide quiet holiday accommodation for dogs who have been through IVDD and have recovered.

My name is Lucy and I live with my husband Simon and our beautiful senior mini sausage dogs Millie Moo (12) and Dolly (10) in a stunning country village. Sadly having gone through 10 years of unsuccessful IVF and not having children of my own, I made a decision to start up the Long Dog Hotel and ignite my passion for the mini & IVDD daxi dogs as I am already a full time sausage dog mum with 11 yrs plus experience and being knowledgable of IVDD.
Its never too early to look for boarding for your pup if you have holidays in mind, leaving it until a month or two before your holiday, dramaticaly reduces your chances of being able to book the dates you want because we only take a limited amount of sausages here at the hotel. We therefore recommend getting in touch as early as possible to start the process of becoming a VIP Long Dog Hotel client if you have holiday in mind.
Unfortunately, we will not be suited to all dogs, and some dogs wont be suited to our environment, please do not be offended if we decide not to accept your pup, the decision is based solely on what is best not only for your own dog, but others in our care at the same time. Please remember, yes we care for other peoples' dogs but it is also our home.
Myself, Millie Moo and Dolly really look forward to meeting you and your pup at
the Long Dog Hotel where we hope you will join the VIP (very important pup) facebook group. Please read the below information to find out how to become a client.
If i am unable to help you on a preferred date please do let me know so I can assist and refer you to another reptuable dachshund boarder. We do not personally recommend using any 'sleep over' sites but please make sure any boarder you use is able to show you their licence, has insurance and follows a test process before any stay. Please do not compromise on your pups welfare.
Stage 1- Virtual Video Call Meet (free)
Please read all of the 'do's and dont's' and prices page and if all is well, the first stage is a free meet via video call which takes up to an hour where I will show you the inside of the house and the garden. We can then have a good chat about your pup's routine and their general behaviour and discuss how we do things here at the hotel- this is no cost. Virtuals are during the week in the morning or afternoon when its light outside (unless you are unable to work around these times)
Stage 2- Dog Meet & Greet (free)
If we are all happy with things going forward, you will be invited down so I can meet your pup on his/her own for approx 1 hour to get an idea of how we go forward. Meets are held during the week or weekends and are no cost. Please note we dont allow the humans in for a show around as we often have IVDD or medical pups here and you will appreciate that lots of new people coming in and out can bring lots of stress or excitement on the dogs.
Stage 3- Trial Nights/Daycare
Please allow settling time if your pup has not been to boarding before.
Following on from the hour meet, if we feel your pup would settle and fit in well, we can go ahead with a full day and night trial and one full day the following day. We keep in touch throughout the trial and if your pup does not settle or any unwanted behaviours are displayed, we would ask you to collect your pup and this is non-refundable. If your pup started to become very anxious and scared during a trial, we would suggest transferring your payment to some daycare so we can allow him/her time to settle before any overnight stay. If your pup didnt settle the first time at night we can do a second test night. Unfortunately dogs can reveal qualities about themselves whilst here that do not come up for you at home but you’d have to accept that things can arise and dogs can take time to settle or may not settle.
You will also need to fill out the comprehensive Boarding Agreement and provide an up to date vaccination card and kennel cough vacciantion proof.
(please read the T&Cs page number)
Stage 4- Book your holiday
If all is well following the overnight trials, you are then a VIP client and are free to book your holiday, you will be invited to our facebook VIP group. As long as your hour meet and trial are within 1 month the dates you require will be held for you until the trial is complete but after that, all dates are first come first served. If your holiday is more than 4 months away since your test nights, we will discuss if your pup(s) requires any short stays or daycare to allow them time to settle in (Please read my prices page).
Please make sure your holiday insurance or pet insurance covers any loss of boaring fees due to holiday cancellations for any reason.
