GENERAL & IVDD FAQ's

IVDD SUPPORT & CARE
We specialise in caring for Dachshunds with mild to moderate IVDD. Our own girls, Millie Moo and Dolly, have been through surgeries and crate rest, so we truly understand the stress and long‑term care these pups need.
With over eight years’ experience, we offer a calm, safe, home‑from‑home environment for sausages who are ready for gentle routines. Helpful resources: https://dedicatedtodachshunds.co.uk
How we keep IVDD pups safe
See below for more information: As Dachshund specialists, we understand the unique needs of pups who have experienced IVDD • Baby gates top & bottom of stairs • No sofa steps • Full ramp to the garden • Step‑free downstairs • Washable rugs for grip • Buggy for appropriate walks • Quiet rest areas available on request We are not a rehab centre, but we provide a peaceful, supportive environment for mild & moderate IVDD pups.
If your pup has an IVDD episode here
See below for more information: If your pup becomes unwell during their stay, including an IVDD episode, we will respond immediately to keep them safe. We will: • Act at once • Give first aid if required • Contact you straight away • Contact your emergency contact if needed • Follow vet guidance and agree next steps with you We provide the highest standard of care, but we cannot accept liability for injury, illness, death, or IVDD episodes unless caused by proven gross negligence. Full details are in our Terms & Conditions.
If your pup develops IVDD after you've paid your deposit
See below for more information: • We understand how stressful a new IVDD diagnosis can be. • As stated in our T&Cs, all payments are made at your own risk. • Although IVDD episodes and illness are outside your control, we also have business obligations and generally cannot refund payments already made. • We will always try to rebook your pup’s space; if successful, a partial refund may be possible depending on how close to your holiday the cancellation occurs. • If your pup has an IVDD episode within 3 months of your holiday and their pain or mobility isn’t manageable by the final payment date, we won’t be able to care for them until they’re comfortable. • Please contact us so we can discuss your options, review their needs, and explore whether suitable care or price adjustments are possible.
Do IVDD charges apply if my pup has recovered?
See below for more information: We understand you may have questions about pricing if your pup has a history of IVDD. Being open about their medical past and present helps us provide the safest care. Because we specialise in a calm, home-from-home environment and don't accept boisterous dogs, our pricing reflects the extra support IVDD pups may need, even after recovery. This can include: • Administering mediation • Extra human interaction and supervision • Monitoring for changes • Managing potential medical emergencies
What if my dog is on medication?
See below for more information: • We’re experienced in giving all types of medications and are happy to care for pups who need them. • We’ll follow your dog’s usual schedule for any prescribed or non‑prescribed meds, creams, sprays, injections, or shampoos. • Please provide clear instructions for each medication, including dosage, frequency, and how it should be given.
Expressing
See below for more information: We're happy to discuss the specific needs of pups who equire expressing. We do have experience expressing pups who require this service, but because each pup's anatomy and routines are unique, we will require: • A video • A short in‑person demonstration session This ensures we can do it safely and correctly for your pup.
Sleeping Arrangements
See below for more information: All dogs sleep upstairs either in our bedroom with us & the Directors (Dolly & Millie Moo), or our dog room next door to our bedroom with doors open. • They sleep in their own bed, blanket and/or crate, which you will bring with you to help them settle. • We cannot accommodate pups in our human bed. • If your dog is trained to sleep downstairs, that’s absolutely fine.
How many dogs do you take?
See below for more information: We are licensed for 8 dog guests, plus two resident Dachshunds Dolly & Millie Moo.
Do you have help?
See below for more information: Occasionally, due to appointments or events, your dog may be cared for by my trusted volunteers. Do take a look at our 'Meet the Team' page to find out about them: • They are fully insured • They spend time with me and the dogs to build trust before helping • Moderate IVDD pups are only ever cared for by me
Your pup's suitcase
See below for more information: To ensure your pup has a comfortable and enjoyable stay, please bring the following items: • Bed, blanket & crate (if used) • A familiar-smelling item, (t-shirt or toy) • Feeding bowl • Measuring cup (if needed) • Your pup’s own food (to avoid tummy upsets) • Any medication (if applicable) • Special dietary food/treats • Harness for walks (not guaranteed) • For IVDD pups: any meds, supplements, supportive equipment, or daily‑use item If you forget something — don’t worry. We have plenty of supplies.
Children
See below for more information: For everyone’s safety and comfort, no children under 16 may visit our home. Some visiting dogs can feel unsure around young children, and we want to keep the environment calm and positive for all.
Its Been Over A Year
See below for more information: If its been over a year, we will require: • New Registration & Vet Release Form • Updated vaccination records • A trial stay This helps us get reacquainted with your pup again and understand any changes in their needs so we can provide the best possible care.
