Every summer, Long Dog Hotel hums with a special kind of energy — the sound of paws padding across the garden, tails thumping against beds, and the gentle shuffle of dachshunds finding their favourite spots.

It’s our busiest season, and it’s also the most heart‑filling one.

☀️ The Summer Rush Begins

As the days get longer, the bookings start to stack up. Families plan holidays, dachshunds prepare for their own, and suddenly the calendar looks like a parade of familiar names — sausages who’ve stayed before, plus a few new faces ready for their first adventure.

The mornings start early. Beds are fluffed, breakfasts are prepped, and the kettle boils while the first noses appear from under their cosy blankets. There’s a rhythm to it all — calm, steady, and quietly joyful.

🐾 Meet‑and‑Greets in Full Swing

The beginning of summer means lots of new introductions. Every week brings a handful of free one‑hour meets — gentle sessions where dachshunds explore, sniff, and decide how they feel about the space.

Some trot straight in with tails high; others take their time, watching from the sidelines before joining in. I film each meet so owners can see exactly how their dog communicates — it’s a lovely window into their personality.

Scatter feeding keeps noses down and minds busy. It’s one of those small rituals that makes everything feel peaceful, even when the garden is full.

🛏️ Beds, Blankets & Tiny Suitcases

By mid‑season, the Long Dog supply room looks like a miniature travel terminal. Little bags and boxes arrive filled with beds, blankets, harnesses, and comfort items that smell like home.

Each dachshund’s luggage tells a story — the favourite toy, the well‑worn blanket, the carefully measured food portions. It’s a quiet reminder of how deeply loved they are before they even walk through the door.

🐕 Personalities Everywhere

No two dachshunds are alike, and that’s half the fun. Some are confident explorers; others prefer to observe from the sidelines. There are chatterboxes, sunbathers, toy collectors, and professional blanket burrowers.

The garden becomes a tapestry of quirks — tails wagging, noses twitching, and the occasional dramatic sigh from someone who thinks dinner is late (it isn’t).

Behind the scenes, calm is everything. The routine stays predictable: scatter feeds, rest breaks, quiet time, and gentle supervision.

Even when the house is full, the atmosphere stays soft. There’s no rushing, no forcing, no noise for the sake of it — just steady care and dachshunds doing what dachshunds do best: finding comfort in their own way.

By the end of summer, the garden feels like a scrapbook of memories — pawprints in the grass, toys under scattered on the lawn, and sleepy sausages stretched out in the shade.
